In 2017, RIIO set out to carry out school eye health screening in Gasabo District piloting the project in 10 Primary and 5 secondary schools
• One proposed methodology for the project was to use Peek School Eye Health software
• Peek uses smartphone-based tools for vision tests and data collection. The system uses data capture and also integrates a referral system reinforced by short messaging service (SMS) reminders to parents.
Lessons from the first field test in Dec 2017 informed further modification of the package and the new package was tested in 2018.
THE SECOND FIELD TEST
The first activity in 2018 was a Headmasters and teachers sensitisation workshop to demonstrate to themto be followed in their schools and have an opportunity for open discussion.
•The entire examination pathway using Peek methodology for eye health screening and the triage process was demonstrated to the headmasters and teachers and the Gasabo District Education and Health officials
•The teachers were all very enthusiastic about the programme.
