The Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO), in collaboration with the RBC’s NCD Division and the Fred Hollows Foundation will be hostingĀ a 2 day workshop at the Lemigo Hotel, in Kigali on the 10th and 11th December 2015.
The objective of the workshop is to draft an action plan on Trachoma Surveillance and Control in Rwanda. Trachoma is an infectious disease caused by Chlamydia Trachomatis that affects the eye. It is a leading cause of blindness in countries around Rwanda such as Uganda and Burundi.
In order to keep Rwanda free from trachoma, the districts bordering endemic areas in neighboring countries have to develop awareness on trachoma and a plan of action on how to deal with cases that may spill over from our neighbors.
The Directors of Health, Ophthalmologists as well as Ophthalmic Technicians from selected Districts who will attend the workshop have a big role to play in order to keep our communities safe from trachoma.
