A few months ago, the first batch of Ophthalmology residents at RIIO and thus the first ever trained within Rwanda sat for their International Council of Ophthalmology exams Part C. They passed at first attempt. Just as they had done with Part A and B. This week they sat their clinical exit exams in Blantyre, Malawi under the College of Ophthalmology of Eastern Central and Southern Africa (COECSA) . As their Program Director I am super nervous but also super excited at what may become possible. In one day we may increase the number of ophthalmologists in Rwanda by 25%.-Prof. Ciku Mathenge
