DR. JOHN CROPSEY
MD, FCOECSA, FABO
Dr. John Cropsey is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, treating eye diseases from the front to the back of the eye in children and adults. Dr. Cropsey joined the RIIO faculty in 2022 and serves as the Director of Global Ophthalmology and Development.
Dr. Cropsey received his medical degree with distinction from the University of Michigan and completed his ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia where he was selected to be co-chief resident. He subsequently completed a two year global ophthalmology fellowship at Tenwek Eye Unit in Rift Valley, Kenya.

Dr. Tsedeke Asaminew Alemu
is a consultant ophthalmologist (MD and specialty certificate from Jimma University), Vitreoretinal subspecialist (certificate from University of Graz, Austria) and medical educator (MSc from Cardiff University, UK). He has served as an assistant professor (since 2013) in Jimma University and St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College involved in teaching, providing static and community outreach ophthalmic service, and doing research in the field of ophthalmology and medical education. He was the founder and faculty of the Master program in Health Professional Education in Jimma University run in partnership with CIH-LMU, Germany. He was also the founding dean of the medical school of the Ethiopian Catholic University in Addis Ababa. He has held different leadership positions on service quality assurance and medical education. Dr. Mulaw
is an Ophthalmologist with extensive experience in both clinical practice and academic training. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Mekelle University, Ethiopia,with a distinction and subsequently specialized in Ophthalmology at SPHMMC, where he served as Chief Resident. Following his residency, Dr. Mulaw held a position as an Assistant Professor at Mekelle University, teaching and training medical students and residents while providing patient care. His diverse experience in both clinical and academic settings has allowed him to build strong relationships with colleagues and patients, resulting in a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
