This week the Flying Eye Hospital team from Orbis international is visiting the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) for a planning meeting on how to execute a FEH mission to Rwanda in mid 2025.
During this visit preliminary contact with the Ministry of Health and Civil Aviation will be made to ensure all the relevant steps are followed in planning.This will be the FEH first visit to Rwanda.
Orbis is an international nonprofit that builds strong and sustainable eye care systems globally with emphases on training of doctors, nurses, biomedical engineers, and other eye care workers.
Orbis’s Flying Eye Hospital is a state-of-the-art teaching facility, complete with an operating room, classroom, and recovery room.The Flying Eye Hospital is the world’s only Quad A fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital and mobile simulation center on board an MD-10 aircraft.
RIIO will be the local host for the mission and will aim to include a wide range of ophthalmologists, OCOS, anaesthetists,nurses and trainees from RIIO and the University of Rwanda as beneficiaries of the training. Additionally needy patients will benefit from subspecialty surgery that will be provided during the mission.
